When Jared Buhanan-Decker’s wife Sharry died during childbirth, he found a silver lining in a very sad situation.
Before she passed away, Sharry Buhanan-Decker was an amateur singer and songwriter. As a gift to her son, JJ, for his birth she wrote a song titled, “Baby Don’t Worry.”
“She was always stroking her tummy and telling him how much she loved him,” Buhanan-Decker shared with Today.
When she died Buhanan-Decker wanted to find the song to play for her son, however, when he went to access the files on her computer he couldn’t seem to open them. Buhanan-Decker then turned to the internet and the online Reddit community hoping they could help him find a way to open the files.
“I just want to be able to hear her voice again,” he wrote online.
Thankfully, the internet answered in spades and many users were willing to help Buhanan-Decker with his issue. Buhanan-Decker was able to get access to the files and open the songs, allowing JJ to hear his mother’s voice.
“I was blown away by the kindness of complete strangers,” Buhanan-Decker explained. “I obviously wish I didn’t need it, but tragedies can really bring out the love and compassion in everyone.”

Every night Buhanan-Decker and JJ set aside some time to listen to his late wife’s music, which brings a smile to JJ’s face every time.
“JJ is my anchor and my salvation in my life right now,” Buhanan-Decker said. “He is exhausting, demanding and stressful, but he is my best friend, my everything. He is a literal piece of my lost soulmate and I love him more than I thought possible.”
Along with the music, Buhanan-Decker’s wife left behind a bucket list she hoped to finish with her family. Buhanan-Decker now plans to finish the bucket list with his son to honor his late wife.

“My life of bliss and happiness was ripped away in an extreme tragedy, but Sharry did not leave JJ and me empty handed,” Buhanan-Decker shared. “She left us memories, her love, her writings, her songs, and her bucket list that serves as a road map for our future.”
