Sofia Vergara has offered her support to Miss Colombia after she was incorrectly crowned Miss Universe at the 2015 beauty pageant on Sunday night.

Event host Steve Harvey hit headlines after declaring Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo had won the Las Vegas competition, only to return to the Planet Hollywood stage moments later to confess he had made a mistake.

“Folks I have to apologize…,” he said on live TV. “The first runner-up is Colombia. Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.”

Ariadna remained poised and professional as she had the crown removed from her head and given to Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach of the Philippines, and she later tried to remain positive about the huge embarrassment.

“Everything happens for a reason,” the 21-year-old insisted as she wiped away tears in a video interview posted on the Miss Universe Facebook page. “So I’m happy. I’m happy for all of what I did for becoming this… I’m so happy. Thank you for all. Thank you for voting for me.”

Fans flooded Arevalo’s social media pages to show their support and among those offering their condolences was Modern Family star Vergara, who shared a photo of her fellow countrywoman’s fleeting crowning moment on Instagram.

“Still the queen,” the newlywed captioned the snap, alongside a flower emoji.

Comedian Harvey took to Twitter and Facebook after the show to apologize to viewers and contestants once again for his major blunder.

“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake,” he wrote. “I feel terrible… Secondly, I’d like to apologize to the viewers at that I disappointed as well. Again it was an honest mistake… I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.”
