Meryl Streep upgraded her accommodation while shooting Plenty in England 30 years ago by shaming pal Karel Reisz for not casting her in Patsy Cline biopic Sweet Dreams.

The director, who worked with Streep on The French Lieutenant’s Woman, cast Jessica Lange as the country music star instead and Streep admits she was very upset.

“Karel was a friend of mine who I adored, and he was making a film about Patsy Cline, who is a singer I adored,” Streep told People.com.

She made Reisz pay for passing on her months later when she realized Plenty was shooting close to where the filmmaker lived.

“I told him, ‘Well, the least you can do is let me stay at your house while I am there,'” she chuckles. “He did, and it was a beautiful house.”
