Mariah Carey’s Publicists Silent Over Broken Engagement Rumors
Mariah Carey’s representatives are remaining quiet over rumors the superstar has split from her billionaire fiancé James Packer.
Multiple reports suggest the “Hero” hitmaker, 46, parted ways with Australian businessman Packer, 49, earlier this month, although they are still said to be in contact as they consider their future together.
“They are not together right now. They split a couple of weeks ago,” a source close to Packer tells People. “It’s possible they will get back together. They are still talking, but James needed a break.”
Insiders claim the couple’s very different lifestyles and Carey’s upcoming reality TV show contributed to the separation.
“James is all about business and making money,” the source explains. “Some of Mariah’s eccentric ways, especially her spending habits, caused drama.”
The insider adds, “James is very private, and doesn’t need the media to be successful. He doesn’t want to be a part of Mariah’s reality show.”
Australian tabloid Woman’s Day first broke the news of the split late on Wednesday.
Carey has yet to address the reports, while her representatives have also not responded to requests for comments.
The couple, which was last photographed together in Los Angeles in May, began dating in June 2015 and Packer proposed to Carey with a massive 35-carat diamond ring during a private dinner in New York in January.
In June, Carey admitted their wedding plans were starting to take shape, although a date for the nuptials had not been set.
The singer is still technically married to second husband Nick Cannon, the father of her five-year-old twins Monroe and Moroccan. They called it quits in 2014, but have yet to finalize their divorce.
She and Cannon have remained on good terms since their split, and reunited last Saturday to celebrate Halloween a little early at a costume party with their kids.
Carey stunned in a figure-hugging red latex devil costume, complete with feathered wings and horns, while Cannon dressed up as the Super Mario Bros. video game character Luigi, alongside Moroccan as Mario, and Monroe turned up as Rapunzel from Disney’s 2010 film Tangled.
