Kevin Hart Hits Back After Fan Criticizes His ‘Stereotypical Movies’
Kevin Hart has hit back at a follower on Twitter who suggested the actor only makes movies encouraging racial stereotypes.
TaShyon Laneigh mentioned the Ride Along star in a tweet on Thursday that criticized him and fellow actor Marlon Wayans for their choice of film roles.
“When are black celebs like @KevinHart4real & @MarlonWayans gonna stop doing stereotypical movies?” she wrote, prompting Hart to fight back. When are black people going to stop being so hard on their own kind… We can’t do better until we support each other,” he replied to his disgruntled follower.
“I make movies for everyone, I’m actually overseas promoting my movie on a international level… I’m busting my a** so other actors of color can eventually get the title ‘Black Movie Category’ removed from the projects that we do,” Hart continued.
Addressing Laneigh directly, he then wrote, “So @tashyonlaneigh I want u 2 realize that people with ur mindset & level of thinking are the reason why our movies get categorized. In the future @tashyonlaneigh I don’t want 2 hear u complain about any of da problems that Black actors r havin Bcuz ur apart of the problem.”
Hart, who is currently starring alongside rapper-turned-actor Ice Cube in the comedy sequel Ride Along 2, then finished his Twitter tirade with the post, “With that being said go see “Ride Along 2” because it’s a good “MOVIE”… now back to your regular scheduled programs #RideAlong2.”
His comments on Twitter come as the debate about diversity in Hollywood rumbles on. After high-profile black actors were seemingly snubbed in the nominations for the Academy Awards, several Hollywood stars, including Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Spike Lee, are boycotting the Oscars this year.
