Lady Gaga is officially set to shine in Bradley Cooper’s upcoming remake of A Star Is Born.

Rumors have linked the “Paparazzi” singer to the project for months, and now bosses at Warner Bros. have finally given Cooper’s directorial debut the go-ahead, with studio executive Greg Silverman confirming Gaga will be joining the American Sniper star in the film.

A statement reads: “For those of us lucky enough to watch him work as an actor and producer, it has been clear that Bradley would make this transition to director. We are honored that he is doing it, here, at his home – Warner Bros. – and with Lady Gaga as a collaborator and co-star. The world is in for a treat as these great artists craft an all new vision of A Star is Born.”

Reports of the pop star’s involvement in the project first surfaced in April, when Gaga was photographed hitching a ride on Cooper’s motorcycle as they made their way to a dinner date in Los Angeles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gaga tested for Warner Bros. bosses and her audition impressed executives, giving her the edge over other potential stars.

The singer shared her excitement about the news, tweeting, “Im elated to be directed by & starring w/ (with) Bradley in this project. He’s a brilliant visionary artist. #AStarIsBorn #AStarIsBornCooperGaga (sic).”

The classic movie, which was first released in 1937, revolves around a wannabe singer who moves to Hollywood and is discovered by an alcoholic and troubled actor. Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand have both played the role Gaga is taking on in 1954 and 1976 films respectively.

Warner Bros. chiefs have been working on a remake for years and Cooper’s American Sniper director Clint Eastwood was initially attached to take charge of the film. Eastwood moved on to direct the film adaptation of hit musical Jersey Boys when the project stalled.

Beyonce was originally rumored to be taking the lead role, but those talks also fell through after the superstar fell pregnant with daughter Blue Ivy.

The gig is a huge coup for Gaga, as it marks her first leading role in a film. Earlier this year, she won her first Golden Globe for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel and she just started production on the upcoming sixth season of the anthology series.
