Dustin Diamond Begins Jail Term
Dustin Diamond has checked into a Wisconsin jail and begun his four-month sentence after a bar brawl in which he pulled out a knife.
The former Saved by The Bell star was sentenced last June after being charged with carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct following a fight in a bar in December 2014 during which a man was stabbed.
“I sincerely apologize to everyone involved,” Diamond said when he was sentenced. “This was the single most terrifying experience of my life… This is all I’ve been able to think about for the last six months.”
The actor later appealed against the disorderly conduct conviction, but he dropped it in December and agreed to start serving his sentence at Ozaukee County Jail on January 15.
Diamond was found not guilty of recklessly endangering public safety, a felony charge which carries a much longer jail sentence.
“I’ve got to say I’m really proud of him,” the troubled actor’s lawyer Thomas Alberti told People magazine back in June. “He gets it. I think he did the best that he could in the moment that he had to make the decision, but he certainly understands that you don’t want to send the message to society that it should be the Wild West in a bar scene.”
