When it comes to creativity, there’s really no limit to what you can do. Whether it’s amazing Halloween treats, carving sculptures with a chainsaw, or insane balloon animals, there’s no end to the kind of mediums you can work with, and no one knows this better than the students at Musashino Art University in Tokyo. They build humongous sculptures out of straw. Yes, you read that correctly.

It’s called the Straw Art Festival and every year the students travel to Kamizeki Lagoon Park in Niigata City, Japan, to take part in building amazing sculptures of straw.

Of course the festival features other things as well. According to Twistedsifter.com, the festival also has kite flying, a market that sells food and agricultural products, and lots of family fun.

The festival began eight years ago, according to ABC News, as a way to celebrate the end of the rice harvest season. The byproducts of the harvest are turned into the beautiful sculptures. Students first build a wooden frame that will be the support of the straw, and then layer the straw on top.
